Former Trades Minister Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen has ditched the New Patriotic Party (NPP), declaring to contest as an independent candidate in a move that may shake the governing party ahead of the 2024 polls.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate”, Alan said at a press conference on Monday (25 September).

Kyerematen emphasized his commitment to addressing critical national issues, including economic development, job creation, and social welfare. He believes that running as an independent candidate will enable him to better serve the interests of the Ghanaian people.

This move presents a significant challenge to the established political order in Ghana and has the potential to reshape the country’s political landscape.

This is not the first time Kyerematen has parted ways with the NPP. In 2008, he resigned from the party after losing in the 2007 presidential primary but later returned after political pressure.

Kyerematen’s decision to break away from the NPP once again and contest the 2024 elections as an independent candidate marks a noteworthy development in Ghanaian politics.
