The Ejisu Goodnews Center Assemblies of God exemplified the spirit of compassion and community on September 30, 2023, by contributing items valued at GH¢25,000 to the inmates of Kumasi Central Prisons in Kumasi.
This generous donation encompassed bags of rice, boxes of bottled water, toiletries, cooking oil, and more, with the aim of providing essential support to enhance the inmates’ well-being.
In a heartfelt address, Rev. Augustine Acheampong, the Head Pastor of the church, underscored the church’s profound recognition of the urgent need to support vulnerable groups, including prisoners.
He acknowledged the formidable challenges faced by inmates, particularly in the context of the nation’s recent economic hardships. Drawing inspiration from the teachings of Christ, which call upon Christians to extend love and care to the sick, orphans, and those imprisoned, Rev. Acheampong reaffirmed the church’s unwavering commitment to fulfilling this divine mission.
Rev. Acheampong emphasized that, as a faith-based institution, the church considers compassion and empathy integral to its ministry, with a particular focus on uplifting the lives of fellow human beings, especially those who are less privileged in society.
He urged the public not to perceive inmates as societal pariahs but rather as individuals in need of spiritual guidance and support throughout their reformation journey. Rev. Acheampong also called on all citizens to actively participate in contributing to the country’s socio-economic development.
The Head Pastor passionately implored other churches to follow suit by regularly visiting prisons and children’s homes, demonstrating love, and offering support to those facing challenging circumstances.
Chief Supt Stella Ama Catherine, acting on behalf of the Regional Commander of Prisons and the inmates, gratefully received the donated items.
She assured the church that the items would be judiciously used to enhance the living conditions of the inmates.
The senior officer also extended an earnest appeal to individuals, churches, and organizations to emulate the church’s exemplary generosity, emphasizing the profound significance of collective efforts in effecting positive change in the lives of those behind bars.
