Some delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region say the Vice President is the best candidate to lead the governing party ahead of the 2024 polls.

They believe Dr Bawumia’s unblemished record in the Akufo-Addo-led government is unmatched, hence their decision to rally behind him as the party holds its special delegates’ conference on Saturday (26 August).

A former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Asokore Mampong Alidu Seidu is predicting an overwhelming victory for the Vice President.

“We are voting on Saturday to give a massive endorsement for the Vice President because we believe that with him as our flagbearer in the 2024 elections breaking the eight is possible”.

I wouldn’t give a percentage at this time but the delegates would give a clear justification that he is the one to lead us and this will be an appreciable percentage”.

A press conference was held by these identifiable groups on Thursday (24 August), to galvanize voting support for the Vice President.

Jibril Alhassan Ziblim an executive member with ‘DMB Volunteers’ made a strong case for the Vice President as he touted his achievements.

“The Gold-for-Oil deal, the brainchild of Dr Bawumia and among other initiatives to restore the ailing economy battered by COVID-19, is already yielding positive results. Let’s all come together and support him this coming Saturday and make sure he is elected to become the leader of the NPP come 2024”, Ziblim said.

Saturday’s special delegates’ conference would afford eligible voters, per the party’s constitution, to select five of 10 candidates ahead of the main presidential race slated for 4 November 2023.

The winner of the election faces the main opposition NDC which has elected John Mahama as its flagbearer for the 2024 general election.
